There
is a need. A recreational resource of this caliber is not yet available in
Hancock.
A
boost for recruitment and retention. The Finlandia Athletics Complex is a huge
step in improving the sustainability of student enrollment at Finlandia,
sending a clear message that quality of student life at Finlandia is a high
priority.
A
competitive edge. Many of Finlandia's regional college peers have recently
completed, or will soon complete, athletic facility additions, renovations, and
new construction.
Supported
by research. A strategic Lions football program, which the Finlandia Athletic
Complex will fully accommodate, is expected to improve recruitment success in
markets such as Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit. Further, studies have
indicated that general student population growth parallels the addition of
football to a small college campus (New York Times, July 10, 2006).
A
home field advantage and genuine collegiate experience. For the first time
ever, Finlandia Soccer and Softball studentathletes will feel the pride of
competing on home turf, and all students will enjoy the advantages of a home
field.
Room
to grow. The Finlandia Athletic Complex includes ample practice and training
areas for multiple sports, as well as additional offices and classrooms, easing
space constraints at the Paavo Nurmi Center and adding flexibility to practice
and game scheduling.
