Frequently Asked Questions

What does this mean?

Currently Finlandia’s e-mail, calendar and contacts are hosted on an internal server using the IceWarp Groupware Suite. The university is moving away from that and to Google. Google will now host and manage e-mail, calendar, contacts and more.

WHY is this happening?

This move will save the University time and money and will increase the offerings available to students and employees. Below you’ll find more information on the benefits of the G Suite.

Help! WHen I reset my password it tells me my username can’t be found.

Your username for reseting your password will be first initial last name, for example John Smith will be “jsmith.” The password is the same one you use to login to your computer, connect to the WiFi, login to finlandia.edu or use EMPOWER.

What will happen to all of my e-mails and other data?

Messages from the two weeks immediately prior to the migration should be available right away.  All older messages and archives will also be transferred beginning December 21 but may not appear for a few days.

If you manage your calendar and contact list through IceWarp, you will need to export that information and import it into Google. A guide on how to do that will be posted on this page. If you still have questions, please contact IT at Finlandia.

Will my e-mail address change?

Employee e-mail addresses will remain the same. Student addresses will change to @finlandia.edu (from @fu.edu).  For example, if your student address was previously aasmith@fu.edu it will change to aasmith@finlandia.edu.  Any messages  sent to your old student address (@fu.edu) will continue to be delivered to your new address.

do i need to change my password?

Yes. For security reasons and to initiate password syncing with Google, the e-mail migration requires a one-time password change.  New passwords must be at least 8 characters long and include at least two elements of the following groups: uppercase letters, numerals or special characters.  It is crucial that you change this password prior to December 21 so that you can continue to log into your Finlandia e-mail account.

Can I still use outlook on my computer or the mail app on my phone?

Absolutely. You can continue to use third-party e-mail clients (Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird), and the email app on your phone.  However, the settings for these programs will change. A guide showing any necessary changes will be posted on this page A guide on how to do that will be posted on this page. If you still have questions, please contact IT at Finlandia.
