President Philip Johnson joins Finlandia Fridays this week to introduce the institution’s upcoming 125th Anniversary celebrations planned for December 3, 4 and 5. Finlandia announces 125th Anniversary celebrations

HANCOCK, MI – On September 8, 1896, hardy and hard-working Finnish Lutheran immigrants gathered to worship at the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hancock, Michigan to officially dedicate a school in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula: the Suomi College and Theological Seminary. J.K. Nikander, president of the Suomi Synod and the college’s first president, preached from the book of Proverbs 8:1, “Does not wisdom cry out, and does not understanding lift up her voice?”

Finlandia joins COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge

In participation with colleges and universities across the country, Finlandia University has joined in efforts to end the pandemic by signing up for the COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge. Invited by the White House and the U.S. Department of Education, participating colleges make three key commitments to the Challenge:

Finlandia Alumni Board raises $15,000 for student textbooks

The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) started Giving Day in 2019 determined to give back to current students in the way of textbook awards. Recipients receive a gift certificate to North Wind Books in the amount of $250 to help offset the rising cost of textbooks. 35 students received textbook awards in 2019, with almost $9,000 raised. Support Student Scholarships and Double Your Donation this Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1

Finlandia University will be raising money for student scholarships on Giving Tuesday which takes place on December 1. Finlandia donors can double their gifts this Giving Tuesday, as an anonymous donor has pledged to match the first $10,000 raised.

Last year, Finlandia’s Giving Tuesday campaign raised over $60,000 in 24 hours. All donations received last year went toward FinnU’s annual scholarship programs to help keep FinnU affordable for current and future students.

‘Hancock Promise’ extension continues reduced tuition for Hancock grads

Finlandia University is pleased to announce a seven year extension of the Hancock Promise (formerly Finlandia Promise or Hancock Award) between the Hancock school district and university. The Hancock Promise allows for Hancock Central High School graduates to attend Finlandia University at a tuition cost of up to only $2500.00 per school year.

Finlandia Graduates 81 Students during Virtual Commencement Ceremony

The Finlandia University Class of 2020, had a graduation ceremony unlike any other.  Yesterday, May 21st at 6 p.m. the 81 students that make up the graduating class were conferred their degrees in a virtual ceremony.
