Maki Library to host author reading & reception June 9

The Maki Library is pleased to host the Finnish Language, Dialects & Finnish-American Experience Author Reading and Reception this Thursday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. Three scholars will be presenting their most recent works:

Dr. Marlene Broemer is sharing her poetry “Notes from the Crystal Palace”, reflecting on her experiences as a doctoral student in Finland and her family’s Finnish history.

Dr. Broemer to Present in the 18th Annual Maple Leaf & Eagle Conference at the University of Helsinki in Dec.

Suomi College of Arts & Sciences adjunct professor Dr. Marlene Broemer received her doctorate from the University of Helsinki in Comparative Literature and will return to her alma mater virtually for the biennial Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference in North American Studies. Finnish American Heritage Center announces enrichment slate for Fall 2017 semester

Finland’s going to celebrate its 100th birthday later this year, and what better present than to learn to speak their language? Or, how about learning a traditional Finnish handcraft or exploring modern-day Finland?
