Claudia Youakim and Hailee Johnson outline SCAS Capstone Presentations

This week on Finlandia Fridays, professor Dr. Claudia Youakim and senior sociology major Hailee Johnson join the program to touch on a very compelling capstone project through the Suomi College of Arts & Sciences (SCAS). SCAS Capstones are projects completed and presented upon by students here at Finlandia University. Until now these have been closed to the public, but Finlandia is opening its doors and welcoming anyone to come for the presentations.

Student reps wanted for Equity and Diversity Committee

The Equity and Diversity Committee is looking for two student representatives. The committee is now accepting applications.

“This is an opportunity to make a difference and gain valuable experience by shaping the future of Finlandia University,” said Dr. Claudia Youakim, a member of the committee.

The Equity and Diversity Committee seeks to include two student representatives to serve on the board. The positions require that students work closely with committee members in organizing campus events, and generating ideas that promote diversity on campus. The student representatives [...]

Youakim introduced as Assistant Professor of Sociology at Finlandia

Finlandia University is proud to introduce Dr. Claudia Youakim, a University of Florida graduate, as Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning this semester.

“Sociology allows us to deepen our thought process,” said Dr. Youakim. “It’s a subject that allows students to take a look outside of themselves. To examine their surroundings and their relationship to a broader societal context.”

Dr. Youakim earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of Florida with a dissertation titled Racial and Ethnic Identity: Arab Americans in [...]
