Study abroad with Paloheimo Fellows Program

November 17, 2017

Deadline to apply is November 27

The Paloheimo Fellows Program, a competitive study abroad opportunity, is now taking applications for the Spring 2018 class. Paloheimo Fellows are a group of four Finlandia University students who travel to Finland with Assistant Professor of Finnish and Nordic Studies Dr. Hilary Virtanen to engage in field research on Finnish society and culture. Students are accepted from any and all majors, however students must be at least a junior in a four-year program or in their final year of a two-year program to qualify. Student applicants are judged on their academic performance, campus and community involvement, ability to work with others and interest in studying society in Finland.

Students accepted to the program will take a three-credit seminar, FNS 490: Paloheimo Fellows Seminar, during the spring semester, followed by a 2.5 week excursion to Finland during the month of May. The vast majority of costs are supported by a generous grant from the Paloheimo Foundation, and so the estimated cost to students accepted to the program is $1,000, which includes some meals that aren’t covered by the program, a passport and spending money.

For additional information, or to apply, contact or visit Dr. Hilary Virtanen, Assistant Professor of Finnish and Nordic Studies, at 317 Mannerheim Hall or by email at hilary.virtanen@finlandia.edu.
