Shawn Wickersheim Memorial Fund now accepting donations

New Wickersheim Student Lounge to open in August

Friends and family of the late Shawn Wickersheim (’08) are coming together to memorialize Shawn through the formation of the Shawn Wickersheim Memorial Fund. Wickersheim passed away at the age of 29 in August of 2015.

“Anyone who knew Shawn, knew he was the ultimate competitor who would never back down from something put in front of him,” said Tucker Thoreson, a good friend of Shawn’s who is handling many of the logistics of the fund’s formation. “Shawn took pride in not only what he did, but also where he came from.”

The memorial fund will be used to create the Shawn Wickersheim Memorial Student Lounge inside of Finlandia University’s Paavo Nurmi Center. Wickersheim was a three-sport athlete during his time at Finlandia, including a four-year letter winner playing for the Lions basketball and baseball teams.

“This memorial would no doubt mean a great deal to ‘Wick,’ as it will leave a lasting impression for years to come on who he was as a Finlandia Lion student-athlete,” Thoreson said.
