Save The Date: Opening Convocation

August 17, 2017

All employees and students are invited to the opening convocation at Finlandia University Sunday, August 27 at 4 p.m. The event will begin with a grand march from Finlandia Hall to the Paavo Nurmi Center. Immediately following the convocation, all in attendance are invited to Finlandia Hall for a spaghetti feed. The event will feature live music, introductions to student groups and student leaders, and more as the 120th school year commences.

Event invite from President Philip Johnson

It was the year 1897 when Suomi College and Theological Seminary welcomed its inaugural class of students! Monday, August 28, therefore, marks the start of Finlandia’s 120th academic year. Next week we want to celebrate our 120th anniversary with a gathering, a Finlandia-esque convocation.

Sunday, August 27, at 4pm students, faculty, and staff will gather in front of Finlandia Hall. We will come together as a learning community to celebrate the Finlandia experience and look ahead to a new year of teaching and learning. Our time together will include a community procession up to the Paavo Nurmi gymnasium, a time of selected presentations, and a return to the dining hall for an all-campus dinner.

Finlandia’s convocation invites all of us to again embrace and embody our shared calling here at Finlandia: to be more fully a whole learning community accompanying the whole student toward a whole life.
