Nine Ways to Stay Safe This Semester

August 26, 2020
As Finlandia begins the new semester, below are nine tips on how to keep yourself and others healthy this year. Learn more about Finlandia’s Safe Open Plan at finlandia.edu/safeopen.

The Daily COVID-19 Symptom Tracker Survey enables us to track the health of our campus community and make referrals for symptomatic testing as needed. The survey will be emailed to you daily at midnight and should be completed daily prior to coming to campus.

Masks will be required on campus at all times, unless eating, in your office/dorm room, or outdoors where social distancing is feasible. Disposable masks will be available to you throughout campus. Face shields will be available for those who cannot wear a mask for medical reasons.

Channel your inner Finn and try not to invade someone’s personal space. Also remember that Michigan’s governor has issued an executive order limiting the number of people at gatherings to no more than 10.

Riku says to wash those paws for at least 20 seconds with warm, soapy water. Hand sanitizer dispensers and refill stations will also be available throughout campus.

Remember to sneeze or cough into the bend of your arm or tissue, and not your hands. If using a tissue, immediately throw it away and wash your hands.

Please follow the social distancing directional signage throughout campus, and stay on the right side of the corridor when walking.

We’re doing our part by increasing our cleaning and sanitation practices across campus. You can do the same by wiping down frequently touched surfaces, like your phone.

Go for the air five, wave, elbow bump, foot bump, thumbs up, bow, or whatever fits your personal style best.

There are no medals for ‘toughing it out’ this year. Our faculty and staff are prepared to work with you and ensure you don’t fall behind in class if you need to stay home.
