Finlandia University is excited to welcome back Jason Rice as a professional tutor. Rice is a former Finlandia student, attending 1998 through 2002. While attending the university, Rice received his Bachelor’s degree in rural human services with a concentration on liberal studies and a Bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a concentration on literature and religion/philosophy. Rice has also work toward his MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Hawaii Pacific University.

Jason Rice Finlandia University“I’m excited to be back to something familiar,” Rice explained. “I’m excited to educate Finlandia students and offer my worldly advice.”

Rice spent a few years of his childhood living in downstate Standish, Michigan, but mostly grew up traveling as his father was in the army. He lived in various places throughout his childhood, including six years in Germany and a few in Colorado.

After receiving his degree from Finlandia, Rice started to think of what he wanted to do next. In 2003, he decided to travel to Changwon, South Korea where he worked for a Kids Club language school where he taught kindergarden-6th graders. He then went to Jinju, South Korea where he was an ESL (English as a second language) Instructor at Gyeongsang National University. In that same year he also traveled to Honolulu where he was a master English tutor at Hawaii Pacific University. He has also taught in his hometown of Standish, as well as in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Rice has many interests outside of traveling and work. He enjoys going for long walks and going to a peaceful place, like a coffee shop, to read and enjoy friends company.

Rice can be found in the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. He specializes his tutoring in English/ESL, but also can help students with religion, psychology, communications and writing. He can be contacted at jason.rice@finlandia.edu.
