Finlandia Fridays studies abroad with Schwartzen Jarmond

February 3, 2017

1C7A0737This week on Finlandia Fridays host Michael H. Babcock is taken on a reminiscent adventure as management and entrepreneurship student Schwartzen Jarmond looks back on international study opportunities presented through Finlandia University.

In May of 2015 Jarmond first traveled to Finland as a part of the Paloheimo Fellows Program and enjoyed it to the extent he had to go again. After working with Finlandia University he decided to study in Finland for an entire semester as an exchange student at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä.

Jarmond notes how the Finnish culture at Finlandia University helped him adapt and react in the new environment. He credits Dean of International Business, Kevin Manninen for the aid he was provided. “He contacted me all summer asking if I had gotten my visa and passport, Jarmond said. “He was a big help, then once I got there (Finland) everyone saw the Finlandia University logo and knew of Manninen.”

Black Student Union

Jarmond also discusses his involvement with the Black Student Union. As president, Jarmond welcomes everyone “Just come out and share your culture, that’s what it’s all about.” The Black Student Union is centered around support and that’s what Jarmond wants to embody in the upcoming meeting, and other events they present around campus.

Meetings are ongoing and he would like to see you there. The first meet and greet of the semester is scheduled for Thursday, February 9 at 7p.m. in Finn Hall. Students from all races and backgrounds are invited to attend.
