A strong sense of place and purpose

Individual Giving is Vital to Finlandia Students

Old MainSince 1896, Finlandia University, in Hancock, Michigan, has been meeting the educational needs and aspirations of the men and women from the Upper Peninsula region of Michigan and beyond. Today, Finlandia remains the only private, liberal arts-based and church-affiliated institution of higher learning in the Upper Peninsula. In addition, Finlandia is the only residential, four-year institution offering NCAA Division III athletic programs in the U.P.

The commitment at Finlandia to prepare students for meaningful careers and purposeful lives remains as strong today as when Finnish Lutheran immigrants first established Suomi College in the year 1896.Individual giving is vital to the students of Finlandia University. The Finlandia University Advancement Department is an important component in the achievement of university goals.

How To Make Your Gift to Finlandia University

Your gift can be made in cash, stock or appreciated property and mailed to the President's or Advancement office at Finlandia University. All gifts are recognized annually in a special donor edition of our quarterly publication, the Bridge.

Gifts in Honor or Memoriam: Your gift may be given in honor of, or as a memorial to someone you wish to recognize. These gifts are regularly recognized in The Bridge.

Online Giving

Your gift to the Finlandia Fund can now be made online with a major credit card. Link here to learn more.

Deferred Gifts

Planned giving and deferred giving are also key to Finlandia's institutional stability. Millions in deferred gifts have helped Finlandia to, in the words of one of our friends, "become what it needs to be".

Charitable Gift Annuities accomplish two things: You are able to make a gift to Finlandia University while also ‘purchasing' a guaranteed annual income for the rest of your life. If you wish to make an annuity gift of $10,000 or more we will provide you an illustration of payments you would receive quarterly, and the amount credited for charitable deduction based on your age. When you make your gift, you will also decide how you wish to designate the remaining portion of the annuity at the end of your life, such as for a particular program, scholarships, plant or endowment.

Wills and Trusts: Gifts through a will or trust can be in cash, stock, securities or in real property. As with any major gift the donor may wish to designate funds to a particular area and/or document the gift in honor or memorial of someone (e.g. The Mr. and Mrs. Doe Endowed Scholarship for Nursing, The John Smith Endowed Chair for Design, etc.).

Property: In terms of property, it is Finlandia's policy to sell property that is willed the institution due to the usual need for ongoing maintenance and property management unless the property is deemed useful for other program or university use.
