Strength and Fitness Center Rules
- Use equipment at your own risk
- Management assumes no responsibility for any injury that may occur
- Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times
- Users must have a change of shoes (no flip flops or sandals) prior to entering the Strength Center
- No food, alcohol, glass containers, smoking, swearing, or horseplay is permitted in this facility
- No pets are allowed
- Children under the age of the 16 must be accompanied by an accompanied by an adult
- Please be watchful of your belongings, management assumes no responsibility for belongings
- Please report faulty or damaged equipment to a staff member immediately.
- Waiver – Anyone using the facility, including faculty, staff, and the students must have a waiver for completed and on file prior to using the facilities
- Memberships are non-refundable
Directions and Parking
The address is 535 Summit Street; Hancock, MI 49930.
Driving directions from south: After crossing the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, remain on U.S. 41 North (Quincy Street) through downtown Hancock. Get into the right hand lane and remain on Quincy Street for 3/4 of a mile. Turn right on Scott Street. Follow Scott Street approximately two blocks and turn right on Summit Street. The Paavo Nurmi Center Gymnasium will be the last building on the left. Click on the map (left) to enlarge.
Free parking is available from the Summit Street entrance as well as from below the Paavo Nurmi Center.

Expert ultra-endurance athlete coming to Keweenaw
Finlandia University Community Wellness, Michigan Tech Wellness and the Outdoor Adventure Program at Michigan Tech have teamed up to bring ultra-endurance athlete Heather Anderson to town for a Trail Tune-Up event on Saturday, April 15. Finlandia Fridays gets fit this week with Bridget Durocher, Finlandia’s cross country coach, senior women administrator in athletics, and strength and conditioning center coordinator.
