Skate with the Lions this Friday

HANCOCK – The Finlandia University men’s hockey team invites ice skaters of all ages to “Skate with the Lions” this Friday evening, February 1, following their game versus Northland College.

The game starts at 7:15 p.m. at the Houghton County Arena, Hancock. Admission is free.

Those who join the Lions on the ice will receive a free “Skate with the Lions” T-shirt compliments of Favorite Silk Screening and Embroidery.

Tonight’s Basketball Games Cancelled

HANCOCK – Tonight’s Finlandia University men’s and women’s basketball games against Northland College have been cancelled.

The games will be rescheduled.

Brenda Peterson is NCHA Player of the Week

HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University women’s hockey forward Brenda Peterson is the NCHA women's player of the week.

Peterson, a senior human services major from Calumet, Mich., racked up five points in two wins last weekend, January 19 and 20.

Saturday, she scored a goal in the Lions’ 5-3 win over Concordia (Wisc.) University, and Sunday recorded two goals and two assists in the Lions’ 7-2 win over Concordia.

FU’s Marcotte MCHA Defensive Player of the Week

HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University Lions ice hockey defenseman Tiger Marcotte (L’Anse, Mich.) is the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week.

In last Saturday’s contest against Marian College, (Fond du Lac, Wisc.), Marcotte, a junior-level nursing major, scored one goal and had two third-period assists in Finlandia’s 5-4 comeback win. Marcotte was plus-two on the ice Saturday.

In a Friday, January 18, contest against Marian College Finlandia was defeated 5-0, but the Lions roared back Saturday, scoring three third-period goals to hand the Sabres their second loss (10-2) in league play.

Finlandia Basketball Games Rescheduled

HANCOCK – The Finlandia University men’s and women’s basketball games against Northland College originally scheduled for December 2, 2007, will be played next Tuesday, January 29, 2008.

The women will play at 5:30 p.m.; the men will play immediately following at about 7:30 p.m. Both games will take place at Finlandia’s Paavo Nurmi Center gymnasium.
