Abstract: Collection of the papers from the Huhta family, mostly related to their interest in music and membership in Finnish-American choirs. Matti/Mathias Huhta of Kearsarge, Mich. was a founding member of the Calumet, Mich. choir group Suomen Sävel (Finnish Melody) which traveled to Finland in 1922.  Eleanor and Lillian Huhta attended Suomi College (now Finlandia University) in the late 1930's and were members of choral societies.

T-88 Folder 1 Mathias Huhta's music booklet  
  Contains sheet music booklet of handwritten songs (bass clef only). Also contains loose sheet music. Edges of pages are worn, Mr. Huhta was probably in a choral group.
T-88 Folder 2 Luella (Huhta) Tomberg's music booklet  
  Contains sheet music booklet. Music is photocopied.
T-88 Folder 3 Eleanor Huhta's music booklets  
  Contains two booklets of sheet music and one collection of loose sheet music. One booklet is handwritten, the other is a published collection of Finnish Christmas music. The edges of the lose sheet music are worn.
T-88 Folder 4 Loose sheet music  
  Loose sheet music in both Finnish and English. Mostly photocopied, but some handwritten.
T-88 Folder 5 Song lyrics (text only)  
  6 pages of gong lyrics, some handwritten and some typed.
T-88 Folder 6 Concert recordings 1989, 1992
  Contains two tape recordings of a Finnish concert in 1992 and a Finnish Christmas concert in 1989.
T-88 Folder 7 Concert programs 1956, 1974, 1982
  Contains three concert programs. Kesälaulajat of Ontonagon (1974), Suomi College Choir (1956), Martti Nisonen Memorial Concert (1982). Two programs are associated with concerts at Suomi College and the third lists Eleanor Huhta as a choral member.
T-88 Folder 8 Newspaper 1940, 1946, 1992
  Contains one newspaper clipping about the first concert for Finnish relief in Hancock in 1940, one 1992 Daily Mining Gazette insert about Finland, and one 1946 issue of the student publication Suomi College Inklings.

  Labeled photo of Elenor Ruth Huhta and Luella Judith Huhta Tornberg. Contains two pages from a photoalbum with photographs related to Suomi College and graduation pictures pasted unto them. The graduation pictures are presumabley of Luella (Huhta) Tornberg

  Contains four postcards from various locations in Finland from Ms. Huhta to Mrs. Tornberg.

  Contains a 1988 Oulu Finnish Calendar with English translations. In excellent condition.

  Contains a 1982 catalog, "Finlanders" selling Finnish and Scandinavian goods.
T-88 Folder 13 Finnish brochure  
  Contain a brochure with information about a the Ruhkala family that headed the first Baptist missionary work in Finland in the early 1980's. Eleanor my have attended their services while in Finland.
