Admissions Team
Admission
to Programs
A
completed admission file includes an application for admission,
$30 application fee, an essay, official high school transcripts
from the last high school attended, and transcripts from all colleges
attended. Although ACT or SAT scores are not required for admission,
students are encouraged to submit scores for merit-based financial
aid consideration. Scholarship criteria are outlined in the Financial
Aid section of this web site.
Admission to Finlandia University will be considered after the documents listed
above have been received. Students applying for admission will be considered
without regard to gender, race, age, religion, national or ethnic origin, or
disability. Admission to the university does not constitute automatic admission
to certain programs offered by the university that have requirements in addition
to those for general admission. Initial admission to Finlandia University also
does not imply automatic continuation in future semesters.
The university reserves the right to refuse admission or continuation to any
incoming or returning student. Any student who intentionally withholds pertinent
information or who falsifies such information may be required to withdraw from
the university
Program Requirements
English as a Second
Language Program
Entrance to the English as a Second Language Program requires
a paper-based TOEFL score of 400 or a computer-based score of 97.
The admission procedures required for entrance to undergraduate
programs is also required for entrance to the English as a Second

the Programs of Study section of this publication. For more

Nursing Program*
Incoming Freshmen BSN students are enrolled as pre-nursing students,
and are eligible for entry into the Nursing Major upon successful
completion of the Pre-Nursing curriculum. Eligibility requirements
for entry into the BSN nursing program's freshman curriculum include
the completion of one full year of high school courses in algebra,
chemistry, and biology (and/or equivalents) with a minimum grade
of "B-" or above and must present a cumulative high school
GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4-point scale. College-level course
equivalents require a minimum grade of "C" or better and
a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above. Students may enter Pre-Nursing
at any time to complete the requirements for entry into the Nursing
Major. Entry into the Nursing Major occurs in the fall semester
of each academic year. Admission to the Nursing Major is limited.
Interested students are encouraged to direct inquiries to the Nursing
Program Office.
*B.S.N. transition process to be fully completed in 2007.
Physical Therapist Assistant Program
Incoming students apply to the Physical Therapist Assistant
(PTA) Program through the Office of Admissions. Currently enrolled
Finlandia University students apply directly to the PTA Department.
High School graduate applicants must have completed one year of
high school courses in algebra and biology with a grade of at least
"B," as well as one course that incorporates the use of
computers. In addition, the applicant must have a cumulative high
school gpa of 3.0.
Transfer or current Finlandia University students who desire to
enter directly into the second year of the PTA program must have
a cumulative college gpa of 2.5 (in the first year general education
courses), no less than a grade of "C" in any individual
course and have a grade of at least a "B-" in BIO 171
and BIO 172 or it's equivalent.
In addition to the academic requirements, all applicants are required
to participate in a personal or phone interview and submit documentation
reflecting 24 hours of clinical observation in more than one clinical
setting. (Students should contact the PTA Department Office to schedule
a personal or telephone interview.)
Students who do not meet the minimum criteria may be accepted into
the Pre-PTA Program and may apply to the PTA Program the following
year. Admission to the Pre-PTA Program does not guarantee admission
to the PTA Program. Students may enter the Pre-PTA Program at any
time; however, the fall semester is the only time students may enter
the PTA Program.
Notification
The student must submit all of the required documents to complete
the admission file. When all documents have been received and evaluated,
the student will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance to
the university. Following notification of acceptance, the student
will receive information relating to course registration, room reservation
and check-in, and further information regarding application to a
specific program.
Deposit
A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $100 is required after
notification of acceptance is received. This deposit should be paid
within two weeks after the notification of acceptance is received
or as soon as the decision to attend is made. Residence hall assignments
are made, scholarships and grants are confirmed, and course schedules
are completed in the order that deposits are received. This deposit
is not an additional charge, and the funds are credited to the students
account during the first semester of attendance.
Course Registration and Room Reservation
Incoming students should submit their Course Selection Form
with the Tuition Deposit. The information provided on this
form is used to register students for the courses they are interested
in. The information provided on the Housing Form is used to make
room assignments for students who will live in campus housing.
Non-Degree Students
Students may apply as "non-degree seeking".
The same policies and procedures governing regular admission to
the university apply to non-degree seeking students. Grades and
transcripts are furnished for courses taken, but non-degree
seeking students are not eligible for federal or state financial
aid.
Dual Enrollment
Eligible high school juniors and seniors are welcome to enroll
in university courses. Registration forms are available from high
school guidance counselors and the Office of Admissions. The guidance
counselor at each high school is responsible for determining student
and course eligibility for School District State Funding. High school
students may only take one course per semester, to a maximum
of four courses in total as a dual enrolled student. Courses may
be taken for high school or university credit. The Dean of Enrollment
determines eligibility for home-schooled students interested in
being dual enrolled at the university. Dual enrolled students are
responsible for all tuition and registration fees that are not covered
by School District State Funding.
Guest Students
Any student in good standing at another regionally accredited college
or university may enroll at Finlandia University as a guest student.
A Guest Student Application can be found in the Registrar's office
at any Michigan College or Univeristy.
Audit Students
Registering
as an audit student requires the permission of the Registrar and
the course instructor. No university credit or grades are given
for courses that are audited. Students interested in auditing a
course should apply through the Office of Admissions. Audit students
are permitted to enroll in courses only after all degree-seeking
students have registered. Some courses cannot be audited,
check with the Office or Admissions for more information.
