Alumni Board Giving Day seeks to raise $30K for FinnU Safe Open

The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) is hosting its annual Giving Day on Sept. 1 in an effort to raise $30,000 to assist the university in it’s Safe Open. Funds raised will go toward the cost of baseline testing for all students and employees, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessary equipment to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on campus this fall.

FinnU to offer multiple learning modalities with focus on in-person and livestream learning

Finlandia University is known for doing small well and this year will be no different. Finlandia’s faculty and staff have been preparing all summer for safer and even smaller classes.

New Student Orientation Goes Virtual

Finlandia is excited to deliver our New Student Orientation (NSO) content in a self-paced, online platform this year. Students will complete four modules in Canvas that will feature videos and quizzes. Each module will highlight different resources on campus and go over important information for the transition to and success at Finlandia University. ‘Hancock Promise’ extension continues reduced tuition for Hancock grads

Finlandia University is pleased to announce a seven year extension of the Hancock Promise (formerly Finlandia Promise or Hancock Award) between the Hancock school district and university. The Hancock Promise allows for Hancock Central High School graduates to attend Finlandia University at a tuition cost of up to only $2500.00 per school year.

FinnU TRIO SSS Grant Renewed for $1.7M Over 5 Years

 The U.S. Department of Education announced that Finlandia University’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant program will be renewed for $1,705,835 over five years to help more students succeed in and graduate from college. FinnU’s TRIO SSS program has been providing services on campus for almost 30 years and assists 180 students annually.

Finlandia Prepares for Fall 2020

Students are making their way back to Finlandia’s campus for the Fall 2020 semester. As the university prepares to welcome approximately 400 students, new protocols and practices are being enforced to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on campus and in the Keweenaw community.

All students required to complete Daily Covid-19 Symptom Tracker beginning Aug. 6

In an effort to keep the campus community safe, all Finlandia University students will be required to complete the Daily Covid-19 Symptom Tracker Survey beginning August 6. The survey will be emailed to all students daily at midnight and takes approximately 1 minute to complete. Alumni Update: Bigalke Named Principal of Ludington Area Catholic School

Finlandia University alumna, Jan Bigalke, recently accepted the role as Principal at Ludington Area Catholic School. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Suomi College and has more than 16 years of experience working as a registered nurse. After getting her associates from Suomi College, Bigalke earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.
