Finlandia Servant Leadership group announces fundraiser for program’s trip to Tanzania

March 18 fundraiser goal set at $2,000 for 15th trip to East Africa

On Saturday, March 18, students participating in Finlandia’s May 2023 Servant Leadership trip to Tanzania will host a soup, salad and silent auction fundraiser from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock, MI. TRIO Pre-College Programs, hosted by Finlandia University, has announced intentions to move forward with scheduled programming and services in summer 2023 while it works with Finlandia leadership and the U.S. Department of Education to find a new host institution. TRIO Pre-College Programs, TRIO Talent Search & TRIO Upward Bound, are 100 percent federally grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan and Finlandia Foundation National, Inc. (FFN), based in Pasadena, California, announce intentions that aim to ensure the preservation of Finlandia University’s Finnish-American heritage and history.

Finlandia University will not enroll students for the 2023-2024 academic year

On Thursday, March 2, Finlandia University’s Board of Trustees announced that Finlandia will not enroll students for the 2023-2024 academic year. The decision follows months of continuous efforts to find pathways for the University to continue its mission.

Finlandia Associate Professor of Finnish & Nordic Studies Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen has been named co-editor of the Journal of Finnish Studies. Having worked on the journal’s editorial staff since 2009, Virtanen now shares co-editorship with renowned folklorist and scholar, Thomas A. DuBois.

Classes canceled February 23 due to inclement weather

Due to inclement weather, Finlandia University will be closed Thursday, February 23, and no classes (in-person and remote) will be held. Only personnel who provide essential services to students should report to campus/work. The Maki Library and Paavo Nurmi Fitness Center will also be closed.

Reception postponed for 2023 Faculty Exhibit at Finlandia University Gallery

HANCOCK, MI – Due to predicted inclement weather, the artist reception for Finlandia University’s International School of Art and Design Faculty Exhibit, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 23rd, has been postponed. The new reception date will be announced once scheduling can be confirmed.

The exhibit is currently open to the public for viewing. Please visit the gallery between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday to view the faculty exhibit and watch for the announcement of the rescheduled reception.

Nursing program students entering into their junior and senior year are invited to apply

Applications are now being accepted for the Ryan Bessolo, MSN, RN, CMSRN Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The application deadline for the scholarship is Monday, March 13, 2023.

Nursing students heading into their junior or senior year with a GPA of 3.25 GPA or higher may be eligible for the scholarship. Qualified applicants must be continuing their nursing studies at Finlandia University the following year.
