A juried exhibit of artwork by students of the Finlandia University International School of Art & Design (ISAD) is featured at the Finlandia University Gallery, Hancock, from March 28 through April 17, 2013.
A reception for the artists will take place at the gallery on Thursday, March 28, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. A fashion show will begin at 7:15 p.m. and awards for student excellence will be presented. The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
This year's exhibit features the work of Jon Brookhouse, Colleen Carroll, Cynthia Coté, Phyllis Fredendall, Robert Grame, Kenyon Hansen, Josh Jaehnig, Harriet King, Joyce Koskenmaki, Erica Lord, Rick Loduha, and Carrice Chardin McKinstry. Media include ceramics, interdisciplinary sustainable design, collage and assemblage, fiber art, graphic design, painting and drawing, and interactive media.
Art & design student Kelsey Norz was selected to be in the company of other talented designers in the book Keep Delete.

"Where Soldiers Come From" recently won the 2012 News and Documentary Emmy Award in the Outstanding Continuous Coverage of a News Story category.
Directed by Houghton, Mich., native Heather Courtney, the film follows the stories of several Copper Country soldiers in the 1431st Engineer Company of the National Guard, which is based in Calumet.
Each of the young men featured in the film graduated from Hancock High School in 2005, all were deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, and all have now returned to the Upper Peninsula. The film was released in fall 2011 and has been shown in major cities and on PBS television stations.
