2014 Diploma Works Exhibition
The Diploma Works exhibit features the work of ten International School of Art and Design graduating BFA students. The exhibit pieces represent each graduating student's final body of work and take the form of intensive research projects, series of individual artworks, or design prototypes. Located at the Finlandia University Gallery, the exhibit will be open to the public from April 21 through May 22, 2014.


2014 Alumni Spotlight: Audrey Small
Art and Design alumna Audrey Small will be spreading her work to the Allan Park, Michigan, to work as a graphic designer for CONTROLTEC. CONTROLTEC transforms product development by providing data-driven solutions for systems engineering, validation, warranty reduction and certification. Please join us in wishing Audrey the best as she begins her new position!


2014 Student's Stop Animation Places First at KitsuneKon Anime Convention
Art and Design Student Ashlee Kranz was awarded first place in General Geekery in the AMV (Animated Music Video) contest for her stop animation at the 2014 KitsuneKon Anime Convention in Appleton, WI. The video contest was judged based on synchronization to music, creativity and expression.

2014 Keweenaw Job Fair
Finlandia University and the Jutila Center for Global Design and Business will be hosting the first annual Keweenaw Job Fair on Friday, April 4th from Noon to 4pm. Local and regional employers and organizations will be featured along with a few workshops including resume writing/critiquing, interviewing techniques, and an entrepreneur seminar. Everyone is welcome.

2014 Student Juried Exhibition and Fashion Show
Finlandia University Gallery's annual juried exhibition will feature work by International School of Art & Design students studying the fine art and design disciplines of drawing, painting and illustration, ceramic and glass, fiber and fashion design, sculpture, product and interior design, and graphic design and digital media. The exhibition will be open to the public from March 27 to April 15, 2014.

The opening reception will take place Thursday, March 27th from 7 to 8:30 pm. The fashion show will start at 7:15 pm.

2014 Group Exhibition: Book Illustration
The Finlandia Reflection Gallery will be hosting a book illustration exhibit featuring students Hailey Macias, Joshua Isaac and Amanda Yoder. Each student will be featured in an installation looking into the process and final piece, with projects ranging from children's books to graphic novels. The exhibit will run from March 11 to March 21, 2014.

2014 Visiting Artist Talk: Jeff Pulaski
Visiting Artist, Jeff Pulaski, will speak about his work featured in the exhibit "Imperfect: Letterpress X3" on February 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Finlandia Reflection Gallery. His work, as well as the work of two other letterpress artists will be featured in the gallery from February 6 to February 28, 2014.

2014 Student Featured in Equilibrium: Art for a Changing World
Art & Design student Melanie Houghton will be featured in the the catalog Equilibrium: Art for a Changing World among other artists in the Young Womens Caucus for Art.

2014 Alumni Exhibition
The Finlandia University Gallery will host an exhibit featuring work of alumni from the International School of Art and Design. Spanning five concentrations the work will showcase art and design from alumni still active in the arts profession. The exhibit will be open from January 16, 2013 to February 19, 2014.

The Finlandia Reflection Gallery will be hosting an exhibit featuring work by Finlandia students, faculty, staff, and local community members revolving around the idea of food. The exhibit will be open from December 5, 2013 to January 29, 2014.

The International School of Art and Design(ISAD) will be featuring the work of Non-ISAD faculty and students from Finlandia University in the Finlandia University Reflection Gallery. The exhibit will run from October 3 to 31, 2013.

2013 Kokoelmasta
Finnish and Finnish-American Art from the Finlandia University Collection

In conjunction with FinnFest USA 2013, the Finlandia University Gallery, Hancock, will exhibit works by 29 Finnish American and Finnish artists, all from the gallery's permanent collection, from June 6 to September 4, 2013. The gallery is located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock.

The International School of Art & Design (ISAD) 2013 Diploma Works Exhibition is featured from April 27 to May 24, 2013, at the Finlandia University Gallery. The Finlandia University Gallery is located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock.


2013 Juried Student Exhibition
A juried exhibit of artwork by students of the Finlandia University International School of Art & Design (ISAD) is featured at the Finlandia University Gallery, Hancock, from March 28 through April 17, 2013.


2013 Faculty Exhibition
This year's exhibit features the work of Jon Brookhouse, Colleen Carroll, Cynthia Coté, Phyllis Fredendall, Robert Grame, Kenyon Hansen, Josh Jaehnig, Harriet King, Joyce Koskenmaki, Erica Lord, Rick Loduha, and Carrice Chardin McKinstry. Media include ceramics, interdisciplinary sustainable design, collage and assemblage, fiber art, graphic design, painting and drawing, and interactive media.

2012 "Where Soldiers Come From" wins Emmy
"Where Soldiers Come From" recently won the 2012 News and Documentary Emmy Award in the Outstanding Continuous Coverage of a News Story category.
Directed by Houghton, Mich., native Heather Courtney, the film follows the stories of several Copper Country soldiers in the 1431st Engineer Company of the National Guard, which is based in Calumet.

Each of the young men featured in the film graduated from Hancock High School in 2005, all were deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, and all have now returned to the Upper Peninsula. The film was released in fall 2011 and has been shown in major cities and on PBS television stations.
