Finlandia Campus Ministry Team

Identity

The Finlandia Campus Ministry Team (FCMT) is a group of Finlandia students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and faith traditions that encourages spiritual growth among members of the university community. The FCMT works closely with the Campus Pastor to assist, guide, and lead various faith-based and Lutheran-informed activities at Finlandia. The FCMT is represented in Finlandia's Student Leadership organization.

Mission Statement

The FCMT aims to provide prayer support, guidance and vision, planning and promotion, and encouragement and leadership to the programs and activities sponsored or organized by Finlandia Campus Ministry.

The FCMT is committed to:

•  supporting and promoting the mission and vision of Finlandia Campus Ministry;

•  working together in a spirit of love, honesty, and respect, with a teachable heart;

•  maintaining a grace-centered approach to all programs and activities; and

•  structuring activities that focus on spiritual growth in faith toward God and love toward neighbor.

Composition

The FCMT is comprised of Finlandia students, faculty, and staff. The staff and faculty members serve as advisors for the student leaders and members. The Campus Pastor is always a member of the FCMT. Other staff members include the Director of Student Life, the Director of Servant Leadership, and others.

The membership is to reflect, as much as possible, the diversity of the student population at Finlandia: traditional and non-traditional students, male and female, ethnic minorities, various denominational (i.e., church) backgrounds, and so on.  Two student co-leaders provide leadership to the FCMT.

Organizational Structure

The mission statement of Finlandia Campus Ministry provides the team structure for the FCMT: “The mission of Finlandia Campus Ministry is to encourage spiritual growth within the Finlandia community. Finlandia Campus Ministry encourages spiritual growth by offering grace-centered accompaniment to students, faculty, and staff for the purpose of growing in faith toward God and love toward neighbor.” The FCMT is formed around two parts: “faith toward God” and “love toward neighbor.” In each of these two parts there are two “core” ministry areas.

Faith Toward God   =    activities centered in spiritual growth through Christian disciplines

Discipleship   =   these activities will generally be of interest to persons of existing faith; and center on activities dealing with disciplines such as worship, Bible study, prayer, and meditation.

Worship     =   these activities will generally be of interest to seekers and those familiar with faith issues; and center on weekly worship and other special occasions.

Love Toward Neighbor     =    activities centered in spiritual growth through Christian care and action

Outreach     =   these activities will generally be of interest to persons unfamiliar with or new to faith; and include activities that are welcoming to persons of various interests.

Service     =   these activities will generally be of interest to a wide variety of persons; and include activities that focus on the physical/material needs of others, issues of peace and justice, and care for God's creation.
