
Finlandia
University intends to engage the whole person. Many of Finlandia
University's classes invite discussions concerning the larger questions
in life inlcuding questions of meaning, purpose, faith, ethical
decision-making, vocation and service, and others.
Religion & Philosophy courses within our Suomi School of Arts
and Sciences include:
Introduction to the Bible: Old Testament, Introduction to the Bible:
New Testament, World Religions, Spiritual Formation, Readings in
Spirituality, Christian Ethics in Pluralistic Society, Biblical
Topics on Vocation, Introduction to Philosophy, History of Christianity,
Christian Thought, Ethics-Classical Theories and Contemporary Issues,
Great Voices in Philosophy, Topics in Philosophy, and Philosophy
and the Environment.
A concentration (21 credits) in Religion and Philosophy is available
for those wishing to pursue religious studies.

Campus
Ministry is one expression of Finlandia's Lutheran heritage and
Christian identity. Today Finlandia belongs to a family of
28 colleges and universities in the United States that are affiliated
with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Finlandia
Campus Ministry reflects the University's commitment to encourage
spiritual growth among students, faculty, and staff.

The mission
of Finlandia Campus Ministry is to encourage spiritual growth within
the Finlandia community. Finlandia Campus Ministry encourages
spiritual growth by offering grace-centered accompaniment to students,
faculty, and staff for the purpose of growing in faith toward God
and love toward neighbor.

Christian
accompaniment is marked by love, honesty, respect, and a teachable
heart. The accompaniment practiced by Finlandia Campus Ministry
is grace-centered. That is, Finlandia Campus Ministry intends
to walk alongside students, faculty, and staff in such a manner
that the unconditional love of God offered to all in Jesus Christ
may be clearly expressed and experienced. Grace-centered accompaniment
intends to nurture growth in faith toward God and love toward neighbor.

Toward God
Faith
toward God is nurtured through Christian practices such as the disciplined
reading of Christian scripture, prayer and meditation, and study.
Finlandia Campus Ministry encourages community worship through Word
and Sacrament so that God's unconditional love and favor offered
in Jesus Christ is heard and received. Finlandia Camus Ministry
aims to provide opportunities for, and encourage participation in,
these and other faith practices. Finlandia Campus Ministry
seeks to promote these disciplines in a manner that not only respects,
but embraces, various faith traditions.
Love Toward Neighbor
Love
toward neighbor is a response to God's sacrificial love revealed
in Jesus Christ. A neighbor is any person in need. Finlandia
Campus Ministry aims to provide meaningful opportunities for serving
those in need, especially those needs that are physical and material.
Loving service includes advocacy for the world's poor and marginalized,
working toward peace and justice, and caring for God's creation.
