More about...
Dr. Kemppainen enjoys the challenge of teaching biochemistry and related areas. People are most familiar with a macroscopic view of the world, yet an understanding of the microscopic view is essential to understanding life processes. Providing this connection in an integral component of Dr. Kemppainen’s classes. As a teacher, she is interested in helping students realize that science is not far removed from their lives, but an integral part of everything they do. She encourages students to relate classroom topics to everyday activities. Students learn through a variety of activities including observation, discussion, and experimentation. These ideas are reflected in the laboratory experiments Dr. Kemppainen has published for the health sciences. When not working, Dr. Kemppainen particularly enjoys outdoor activities. She loves to follow the cycles of nature and makes frequent observations of the natural world when walking her dogs.
