The YKSNA was founded on April 11, 1999, upon successful completion of its First Kilpinen Art Song Competition and Symposium at Edgewood College, Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The Society was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt, cultural, artistic and educational organization on January 5, 2000, to honor and cherish the artistic memory of the great Finnish composer Yrjö Kilpinen.
Purposes of the YKSNA
From the Articles of Incorporation -
Nonstock (Not-For-Profit) Corporation
- Incorporated January 5, 2000:
- This non-profit corporation is organized exclusively for educational purposes
including the making of distributions, for such purposes, to other organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future tax code.
- The corporation will promote the performance of the vocal literature of Kilpinen, other Nordic composers and great composers world wide. The organization encourages singers, pianists and composers in the art of the song recital.
