Peterson, Tincknell Honored by D-III Independents
HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University senior Laura Peterson
(St. Ignace, Mich.) was selected by the Association of NCAA D-III
Independent coaches as All- Independent 2nd Team Volleyball Setter.
Peterson averaged 8 assists per game (636 total assists) and had
3 digs per game (238 total digs).
Sophomore Ally Tincknell (Negaunee, Mich.) was selected by the
NCAA D-III Independent coaches as an All-Independent Honorable
Mention Volleyball Middle Blocker. She averaged 2.05 kills per
game (164 total kills), 3.08 digs per game (246 total digs) and
27 solo blocks.
“I am very proud of these two girls,” said Katelyn
Fogle, head women’s volleyball coach. “Each of them
improved tremendously throughout the season.
“Laura, a senior captain, is the definition of hard work
and commitment. She really deserved this honor and I am glad the
other coaches took note of her statistics and character.
“Ally, fought through injury throughout the entire season
and posted some great numbers in kills and digs. Ally will only
improve in the next two years and I am excited for her to return
next season with this honor under her belt.”

Add Calumet’s Koljonen to Volleyball Roster - August
10, 2007
The Finlandia University women’s volleyball team has received
a commitment from Karen Koljonen of Calumet, Mich., to attend
and play for the Lions beginning the fall semester of the 2007
season, Head Volleyball Coach Katelyn Fogle announced today.
Koljonen, 5'5", a 2006 Calumet High School graduate, will
be studying Physical Therapist Assistant at Finlandia. She attended
Michigan Tech during the 2006-07 school year and has transferred
to Finlandia.
Koljonen competed in volleyball, cross-country, and track at Calumet
High School. During both her junior and senior high school volleyball
seasons the Calumet team won conference, district, and regional
championships. For her volleyball play in 2006, she was named
to the 1st Team All-Conference (West-Pac Conference) and the All-Region
Team by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association.
In cross-country, Koljonen was named to the All-U.P. Cross Country
Team and Academic All-State Team each year from 2004 to 2006.
She was on the All-State Team in both 2003 and 2006 in track and
field for the 1600M and 3200M runs, and the 1600M run and 3200M
relay, respectively.
“Karen is very athletic and is a welcome addition to the
volleyball program,” Coach Fogle comments. “She is
a terrific local player who is used to winning. She’ll bring
valuable experience to the team.”
