to host Point Guard College Basketball Clinic -
March

- Be a part of the Point Guard College basketball clinic hosted
by the Finlandia University Basketball Programs. Players will
be challenged to think the game, regardless of position. The
Point Guard Collegte gives athletes the chance to improve leadership,
develop fundamentals, and create an understanding of the game like
never before!
This
1 day clinic for the dedicated athlete will be led by former All-American
and WNBA draftee of the Indiana Fever last year, Lyndsey Meddars.
Meddars will teach participants the same skills and fundamentals
and essentials that helped her lead the nation in assists in 2005
- 2006 as a four year starter at Iowa State University.
The
clinic will be held at the Paavo Nurmi Center on the campus of Finlandia
University Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Cost of the clinic is $75 per athlete (includes lunch) and $25 per
observing coach (includes lunch). Participating athletes must
be currently in the 8th grade on up to college. We are limiting
the clinic to 60 athletes, so sign up early. For more information

Finlandia’s
Tincknell Receives Independents Honors - March 13,
2008
HANCOCK – Finlandia University sophomore Ally Tincknell
(Negaunee, Mich.) has been named to the Association of Division
III Independents Third Team for women's basketball.
“Ally had a great season, averaging 15.4 points per game (52.5%
from the floor), 10.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game,”
said Curtis Wittenberg, head women’s basketball coach.
“She was consistent night in and night out. She was always
under-sized but was still able to put up a double-double (double
figures in points and rebounds) almost every night. This is a great
honor for Ally and I look forward to challenging her to improve
on this next year.”
The All-Independent Women’s Basketball teams were selected
by the women’s basketball coaches from member schools of the
Association of Division III Independents.

Tincknell Independents Player of Week
HANCOCK
– Finlandia University sophomore forward Ally Tincknell ( Negaunee
, Mich. ) has been named the Association of Division III Independents
women's basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.
On
the weekend, Tincknell helped her team to a 1-1 record by averaging
23.5 points and 11 rebounds per contest. She also shot 57.7% from
the floor and 70.8% from the charity stripe.
In
a 61-49 victory over Rochester College February 1, she tallied 15
points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. On February 2, she added
32 points and 12 boards in a tough 74-66 loss to Marygrove College
.
“Ally
has been a solid player for us game in and game out,” said Curtis
Wittenberg, head women's basketball coach.
Finlandia’s
Tincknell Named Player of the Week
HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University sophomore forward Ally
Tincknell (Negaunee, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division
III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week. Tincknell
helped her team win the Silver Lake College Tip-Off Tournament in
Manitowoc, Wis., by averaging 20.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds
per game. She also shot a blistering 68% from the field en route
to an All-Tournament team selection. In a 65-61 win over Ashford,
she tallied 27 points and nine boards and added 14 points and eight
rebounds in Finlandia’s 64-54 victory over Silver Lake.
Makela Joins Lions
Women’s Basketball - August 20, 2007
Deanna Makela of Ishpeming, Mich., has committed to attend Finlandia
University and play basketball for the Lions beginning the fall
semester of the 2007 season, Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Curtis Wittenberg announced today.
A 2007 graduate of Westwood High School, Makela is a 5'6" shooting
guard who was a Mid-Peninsula All-Conference Honorable Mention selection
for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2003, she was named her team’s
Most Dedicated Player, and in 2004 was her team’s Most Valuable
Player.
“Deanna is a well-coached player coming from a very good program
at Westwood,” says Coach Wittenberg. “Her playing experience
in high school and AAU will help with her transition to the collegiate
game.”
Wittenberg
New Finlandia Women’s Basketball Coach - July 19,
2007
Curtis Wittenberg, Lake Linden, Michigan, has been selected as the
new Finlandia University women’s basketball coach and sports
information director.
Wittenberg spent two seasons as Finlandia’s assistant women’s
basketball coach under former head coach Steve Nordstrom (2004-06).
He has been head coach of the Lake Linden High School boy’s
basketball team since the 2005-06 season, with head girl’s
basketball coaching responsibilities added in 2006-07.
“We’re very excited to welcome Curtis as head coach
and sports information director,” said Finlandia athletic
director Chris Salani. “He’s been a part of the Finlandia
athletics program for the last four years and understands what our
institution and athletic programs strive to achieve. I look forward
to Curtis continuing where Nordstrom left off.”
