Matt Farrell

Originally from the Copper Country, Matt Farrell joined the Finlandia University Athletic Department as the first men's baseball coach in 2003.

Farrell was a 1988 graduate of Hancock Central High School, played two years at the University of Wisconsin - Superior and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire in 1998. He majored in journalism/advertising and minored in English.

Previous to his position as head baseball coach at Finlandia, Farrell had many opportunities to broaden his knowledge of the game. In 1985, he was a member of the Concord, New Hampshire Babe Ruth State Champions, who then participated in the New England regional. Farrell also has been active in area baseball leagues for many years, and has won many honors including: MVP of the Copper Country Conference American Legion in 1988, Copper Country Twilight League MVP pitcher (two times), Copper Country Twilight League playoff MVP (three times), MVP of the jack Pastore Memorial Baseball Tournament (four times).

In addition to those honors, Farrell had the opportunity to play one season of semi-professional baseball with the Hayward, Wisconsin Hawks of the Northern League in 1997, and serve as an assistant coach for the Hancock American Legion teams in the mid-1990s.

Along with coaching baseball, Farrell currently works as the recruiting coordinator and game events manager at Finlandia University and is an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). He lives in Houghton with his two children, Morgan and Kade.
