Finlandia’s incoming class up 12 percent

Finlandia University’s 2014-15 incoming class is 12 percent larger than last year’s incoming class of students. That number includes freshmen and transfer students.

“Seeing an increase in incoming students is a testimonial to the steps Finlandia is taking,” said Lenny Klaver, Vice President of Advancement & Enrollment. “Many factors came together to make this possible, including new tuition initiatives that make the university even more affordable, a new, highly motivated, enrollment team, and a newly developed strategy to address populations we weren’t meeting as well as we’d like to.”

The larger group of students means that Finlandia Hall, the university’s residence hall, is at full capacity this year.

“The fact that we reversed a three-year trend with our incoming students is the proof that the momentum here is just starting to build,” Klaver said. “We have nearly a dozen new faculty with fresh pedagogies, an energetic new staff in student life and activities, and of course some truly exciting things going on in our Division III athletic program.”

This year’s group of incoming students is 227, compared to 202 last year. Any questions or media requests regarding Finlandia’s 2014-15 enrollment numbers should be directed to Michael H. Babcock, Director of Marketing & Communications, at michael.babcock@finlandia.edu or 906-487-7348.
