Kantele-making Workshop is May 10 and 12

Kantele playersHANCOCK, MI - For those who couldn't attend the kantele-making workshop at this January's Hekinpäivä celebration, or for those who wish to make another instrument, Jim Lohmann will lead a 5-string kantele-making workshop May 10 and May 12 at the Finlandia University Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock.

Both workshop sessions begin at 6:00 p.m. Participants will construct their own 5-string kantele, which is an iconic musical instrument of Finland. Attendees must attend both sessions to complete their kantele.

No specific skills are needed; even those with no carpentry experience will enjoy the workshop.

The registration fee for the class is $125, which includes all materials. Students will take their instrument home at the conclusion of the workshop.
