Finlandia, Gogebic Forge Transfer Agreement

Gogebic-Finlandia Articulation SigningHANCOCK, MI - Finlandia University and Gogebic Community College are working together for student success. The two Upper Peninsula learning institutions have forged an agreement which makes it easier for GCC associate degree graduates to continue their education toward a bachelor's or associate degree at Finlandia.

Students attending GCC now have a roadmap to follow that matches specific Gogebic classes to bachelor and associate degree program requirements at Finlandia. New students at GCC will be informed of the agreement, and those planning to transfer to Finlandia can arrange their course schedules to minimize duplication of academic requirements.

Finlandia University President Philip Johnson and Gogebic Community College President Jim Lorenson publicly signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Articulation Agreement at a ceremony this April at Gogebic Community College, Ironwood.

"Forging this agreement has opened an important dialogue between administrators, staff, and teaching faculty of both institutions," says President Johnson. "It is our hope that we have established a foundation that encourages and supports future cooperation and collaborations among faculty and staff at Finlandia University and Gogebic Community College."

Finlandia and Gogebic began discussing the transfer agreement earlier this year, and staff and faculty at both institutions have worked together to produce equivalency sheets for eleven Finlandia degree programs, said Dr. Cameron Williams, acting provost at Finlandia.

"The equivalency sheets clearly delineate how a GCC student can smoothly transition from completion of a two-year degree program into a degree program at Finlandia," Williams explains.

The Finlandia University programs included in the agreement are: Business Administration, Fine Arts, Medical Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Liberal Studies, Communication, Criminal Justice, English, Psychology, Social Science, and Arts, Culture and Environment (ACE).
