Himmeli Workshops Thursday, 1 pm and 6 pm

December 1, 2009

HANCOCK, MI - Milwaukee-area craftsman Ernst Hensersky will conduct two workshops this Thursday, December 3, in the art of creating himmeli, a traditional Finnish Christmas ornament.

The workshops, hosted by the City of Hancock's Finnish Theme Committee, are at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Finlandia University Finnish American Heritage Center. Each workshop will provide the same instruction in making small himmelis from straw.

Hensersky is in the Copper Country to install five of his giant-sized himmelis at local sites. His creations, which are made of wood, are about 4 feet wide and 15 feet tall - much larger than "typical" himmelis.

Registration is $10 per person, and all materials will be provided. Interested students may register prior to each workshop, or in advance by calling Dave Maki at 487-7549.
