ISAD ArtHANCOCK, MI - Finlandia University has announced four new International School of Art & Design (ISAD) scholarships generously funded by David and Elsa Brule of Iron Mountain, Mich.

The scholarships will be awarded to four new and transfer students enrolling full-time (12-20 credit hours per semester) at Finlandia in fall 2013. Recipients will be selected based on portfolio competitions and academic achievement, with one award based on financial need.

Student-artists working in all media are invited to submit a portfolio of their original work for the competitions. The work will be evaluated on composition, concept, range, craftsmanship, and originality.

The first competition, the Dave and Elsa Brule Scholarship Competition, will award a total of $30,000 over four academic years to one incoming freshman student. To participate, prospective students must apply and be accepted to Finlandia University. The competition will take place on the Finlandia campus on Saturday, April 13, 2013, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Students must be present to win.

The second competition, the Dave and Elsa Brule Transfer Scholarship, will award a one-time, merit-based award of $5,000. It is open to all college students who have completed or are currently working on an associate degree in fine art at a community college. The recipient will be selected through an online portfolio competition and announced May 1, 2013.

The third competition is a one-time, $5,000 merit-based scholarship to be awarded by the Association of Student Artists (ASA) this spring. The ASA is a  collaboration among the school districts of Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, and North Dickinson in Michigan, and Pembine and Niagara High Schools in Wisconsin.
