Call for Entries: 5th Annual "Art from the Grieving Heart" Writing Competition
HANCOCK, MI - The Community Coalition on Grief and Bereavement (CCGB), in partnership with Finlandia University, invites community members of all ages to submit a short story, essay, or poem in the 5th annual "Art from the Grieving Heart" writing competition.
The writing competition is intended to encourage both children and adults to creatively express their grief, and to begin to accept the grieving process as a normal part of life.
All entries must be original work. They may be handwritten or typed, and must be submitted via regular mail to: CCGB, P.O. Box 678, Houghton, MI 49931.
Writing competition entries must be postmarked no later than March 30, 2012.
Winning entries will be selected from each of nine age groups, and the winning authors will be invited to read their pieces at an award ceremony the evening of April 18, 2012, at the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock.
The Community Coalition of Grief and Bereavement, established in 1996, serves citizens in Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw counties. Coalition members include representatives from health care providers, churches, businesses, schools, and community agencies.
Along with the writing contest, the Coalition offers support to those coping with loss and grief and organizes a variety of learning and awareness activities for children and adults. Visit the Coalition's website at www.grief-ccgb.org.
