Nurses' Spaghetti Dinner for Omega House Is February 26
HANCOCK, MI - The Finlandia University Student Nurses Association will host a Spaghetti Dinner Saturday, February 26, 2011, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Hancock.
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Omega House hospice, Houghton.
On the menu are spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread, home-baked goods, coffee, tea, and punch. A raffle will be held, and several community members will provide piano music throughout the dinner.
This is the sixth year the student-nurses have hosted a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser to benefit the Omega House. Combined, the first five events raised close to $10,000 for the hospice.
"The Omega House is a great organization for this community," says student-nurse Robin Vitton. "We are glad to help them in any way that we can."
Tickets are $7.00 for adults, $3 for children aged five to nine, and children under age five eat free. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Finlandia student-nurses or at the door. Carry-out meals will be available.
Many local businesses and individuals have donated food and other items for the fundraiser dinner. They include EconoFoods, Wal-Mart, ShopKo, 5th & Elm Coffee Shop, The Loading Zone, Pepsi, Vollwerth's, and Tony Salani.
Raffle prizes include gift cards from Applebee's, McGann Building Supply, Keweenaw Coop, Family Video, JC Penney, North Wind Books, Keweenaw Gem and Gift, Tropical Escapes, and Dreamland; savings bonds from Superior National Bank and River Valley Bank; a one-hour massage from Refresh & Renew Massage; 20% off windshield chip repair at Matt's Auto Body; a free oil change and lube at Parkway Motors; ski rental for two and snowshoe rental for two from Downwind Sports; a one night's stay in a whirlpool room at AmericInn of Calumet; a framed photograph by Dave Walli; and a hot tea gift set from Calumet Mercantile.
The Finlandia University Student Nurses' Association engages in a number of community activities throughout the academic year. They include community-wide canned food drives, blood drives, breast cancer and domestic violence awareness activities, donation of holiday gifts to the Salvation Army, and assisting fellow student nurses with speakers and special review courses.
