Runway Fashion Show Is Saturday,
November 10, at 7:00 p.m.

HANCOCK, MI - The Finlandia University International School
of Art & Design (ISAD) will present a runway fashion show on Saturday,
November 10, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., at the Finnish American Heritage Center,
Hancock.
The event is free and open to the public.
The fashion show, titled "MUOTI," features men's, women's,
and children's garments designed, constructed, and repurposed by Finlandia
Fiber and Fashion Design students and alumni. The Finnish word "muoti" means "fashion"
in English.
Current Finlandia fiber and fashion design students taking
part in the fashion show are Eric Hinsch, who will show a hand-spun, hand-knit
sweater and a jacket created from his woven jacquard design fabric; Sarah
Jalkanen, innovative bags and packs using unusual fabrics, including her own
woven jacquard design fabric; Sara Beckley, hand-dyed organic jerseys,
including bridesmaid dresses she created for her wedding; Mamoonah Khokhar,
contemporary wedding fashion from repurposed bridal wear donated by
Celebrations Bridal and Formal of Hancock; Taylor Pomroy, Finland-inspired
garments; Samantha Rowan, a redesigned bridal wear gown donated by
Celebrations; garments constructed of shibori-dyed fabric and an original top
by Anna Kluck, and garments co-designed by student Gini Moreau and her
daughter, Lyzzie.
Participating Finlandia art and design alumnae are Audrey
Chamberlain ('11), who will show a hand-sewn reverse appliqué beaded wedding
dress; Becky Weeks ('03), historical and theatrical fashion; Heidi Wiitanen
('06), itajame shibori dresses; Yana Dee Weglarz ('05), who is a full time
fashion designer; Emily Pierce ('08), printed and dyed separates; and Eileen
Sundquist ('12), handwoven scarves, hats and a Sami-style gakti.
