FAFSA Completion Events in February
HANCOCK, MI - Need money for college? Keweenaw Compass can help!
High school seniors and their parents are invited to four free FAFSA completion events this February.
The events are organized by Keweenaw Compass and KCAN! (Keweenaw College Access Network), organizations working locally to encourage youth to pursue post-secondary education.
At each event, local financial aid officers will offer free help completing the 2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. The FAFSA is often viewed as a major hurdle in reaching education beyond high school.
The first event, College Goal Sunday, is February 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Finlandia University Jutila Center, Hancock. College Goal Sunday is a nationwide volunteer program that provides free information and assistance to students and families who are applying for financial aid.
Wednesday, February 15, FAFSA Completion Nights will take place at both Calumet High School and Lake Linden-Hubbell High School. Check with your high school counselor for more details.
Wednesday, February 22, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., a FAFSA Completion Night will take place at Baraga High School.
In advance of College Goal Sunday or FAFSA Completion Night, parents and students are urged do three things: 1) gather their 2011 tax documents, such as household W-2s; 2) request a Federal Student Aid PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov; 3) and print and complete the FAFSA worksheet at www.fafsa.ed.gov/fotw1213/pdf/fafsaws13c.pdf.
Free snacks and prizes will be available at all FAFSA completion events, including KnowHow2Go swag, t-shirts, stickers, wristbands, and key chains.
